Laurena’s Longarm is for sale.

An opportunity has arisen and I am moving on to a new job. I’ve made this difficult decision after significant consideration and I would like to share with you what will happen at Laurena’s Longarm Quilting in the next couple of months.

I am offering the business for sale until February 17, 2017. Please telephone me at (781) 229-0734 if you are interesting in acquiring a flourishing business with a growing clientele of loyal, talented quilters.

Barring a sale, March 18, 2017 will be Laurena’s Longarm Quilting’s last day of business.

I will work with subscribers individually to use or refund your prepaid hours.

Future classes are cancelled. If you signed up for classes in January, February or March and have already prepaid, I will refund your class fees.

I will accept a limited number of quilts for edge to edge quilting in February. All quilts must be picked up by March 18.

LLQ will be open by appointment only, Wednesdays through Saturdays.

Laurena’s Longarm Quilting grew from one machine to a multi machine rental and quilting business. The thriving community of machine quilters in the New England area have been the cornerstone of this growth. I’m grateful for the support you’ve given me over the years.

Wish me well in my future endeavors!

Announcing Studio Rental Blocks

Laurena Longarm Quilting Rental Machines BostonAs of September 8, Laurena will offer choose half day or whole day studio rental block.

  • The half day block costs $80 (4 hour maximum). Half day quilt blocks begin between 9 am and 10 am or 1 pm and 2 pm.
  • The whole day block is $140 (8 hour maximum). Start times are flexible.

How does this impact the frequent renter program? You earn hours at 4 hour and 7 hour increments, receiving a half day block  of free quilting when you accrue 25 hours.

Laurena began renting longarm machines in 2008, with one hand guided Gammill machine. Today, LLQ offers two Gammill hand guided long arms and a Statler Stitcher for Boston area quilters to rent.

Laurena’s shown nearly 500 people how to use the longarm machines. She’s seen that quilters need space to practice, learn and experiment on longarm machines. Many of our customers enjoy the extra space to pin, trim and spread out. We enjoy helping you make your quilts the best possible. It’s great to see you turn those tops into beautiful quilts! The studio block program gives you all of this for a set price.

The hourly rental rate will continue on the sit down free motion Charm machine.

Learn to use a Longarm Quilting Machine

I love this machine!

Such joy in their voice! I’ve heard several quilters use the word “love” as they enjoy their first session on the hand guided longarm machine. I remember my own joy the first time I watched my own top become a quilt.

Learn to Longarm Quilt at Laurena's in metro Boston
Take the intro class at Laurena’s and enjoy a whole new quilting experience.

If you’re a hand quilter, the surprise of watching a quilt come off the “frame” in a day is exhilarating. If you’re accustomed to moving your quilt sandwich under a sewing machine, there’s the relief of “driving” across a quilt top laid all nice and flat in front of you. There’s definite advantages to longarm machine quilting.

Laurena teaches the basics of longarm quilting usually twice a month. She’s taking a bit of a break during August and the September class is full, but here’s the rest of the fall schedule.

  • Saturday, October 18, 2014
  • Wednesday, November 5, 2014
  • Saturday, November 22, 2014

The class begins at 9am, costs $50 and is about 4 hours long.  Bring a pencil or pen for note taking, a covered beverage and perhaps a snack so you can stay jazzed for the duration.

Are you ready for a new quilting experience? Reserve your spot now by calling the studio at 781.608.7891 or email info at burlingtonlongarm dot com.

Statler Stitcher Samples

With Laurena out of town this week, Gwen and I took time to implement ideas and prep quilts for next week’s “back from vacation” mode.

The latest #StatlerStitcher to join Laurena's Longarm stable
Isn’t it a beauty? This Statler Stitcher has a 14′ table.

Gwen created samples of 36 Statler Stitcher patterns we have in stock. This will give customers a better chance to discover possibilities as they match their quilt to the computer guided stitching options. We’ve had many already on display, but it’s nice to see everything currently available. More of our renters try the Statler, and we’re happy to download and purchase new designs if there’s one you really love.

I made a nice show and tell catalog of the batting, giving you an easier opportunity to handle samples rather than just on the bolt. Check them out next time you’re at the studio.

In the next month, I hope to photograph all of our current samples and upload a catalog for you to peruse at your leisure.

Kudos to Gwen for her persistence!

Save this summer when you quilt using theStatler Stitcher
A Statler Stitcher ready to quilt your top!

That’s not too difficult, right?

This is perfect timing for quilts heading out with college bound kids, or to get a head start on tops for fall quilt shows.

Your top will be quilted using one of our Statler Stitcher machines. I love the way you can scale the pattern to your quilt, choosing the offset and stitches per inch. Bring your own batting, or choose from Laurena’s wide range of options.

Stay tuned! I’ll share some of the interesting patterns Laurena has already loaded onto the computer in upcoming posts.
